UFC 76: Knockout –
Anaheim, Calif. – Honda Center – Sept. 22, 2007
Keith Jardine scored a huge upset over Chuck Liddell in the
main event of UFC 76.
Filling in for Liddell’s original opponent, Wanderlei Silva,
“The Dean of Mean” scored a split decision over the legendary Liddell.
UFC 76 was subtitled “Knockout,” so of course, there were no
knockouts on the show.
PRIDE star Mauricio “Shogun” Rua debuted in UFC with a 15-2
record, but Forrest Griffin used a rear-naked choke to beat him with 15 seconds
left in the fight.
Jon Fitch won his 14th fight in a row, winning a
split decision over Diego Sanchez.
Lyoto Machida improved to 11-0 with a unanimous decision win
over Kazuhiro Nakamura.
Tyson Griffin opened the PPV with a unanimous decision over
Thiago Tavares.
Rich Clementi got a chance to fight on the pre-show when
another bout fell through. He handed Anthony “Rumble” Johnson his first loss with
a rear-naked choke in Round 2.
In other pre-show
bouts, Jeremy Stephens beat Diego Saraiva by unanimous decision; Matt Wiman
defeated Michihiro Omigawa by unanimous decision; and Christian Wellisch beat
Scott Junk with a heel hook at the 3:19 mark.
