UFC Fight Night 20:
Maynard vs. Diaz - Fairfax, VA – Patriot Center – Jan. 11, 2010
Gray “The Bully” Maynard kept his undefeated streak alive with
a split decision over Nate Diaz at UFC Fight Night 20.
Maynard (9-0 with a no-contest) won 29-28 and 30-27, with
the third judge scoring the fight 29-28 for Diaz. Maynard gained revenge for Diaz eliminating him from The Ultimate Fighter Season 5.
In another lightweight contest, Evan Dunham beat TUF 8
winner Efrain Escudero by submission to an armbar with one minute left in the
fight.
Aaron Simpson improved to 8-0 with a split decision over
“Filthy” Tom Lawlor in the middleweight division.
TUF 7 winner Amir Sadollah thrilled his hometown fans with a
unanimous decision over Brad Blackburn to start the Spike TV telecast.
On the pre-show, Canada's Rory MacDonald forced Mike Guymon to submit
to an armbar at the 4:27 mark in a battle of UFC newcomers.
Thiago Tavares and Nik Lentz battled to a majority draw
after Tavares lost a point for a groin kick.
Future lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos beat Kyle
Bradley by unanimous decision; and Rick “The Horror” Story beat Jesse Lennox by
split decision.
The rest of the pre-show fights took place in the middleweight
division. Chris Leben won a unanimous decision over Jay Silva.
Gerald Harris scored a TKO win over John Salter in Round 3;
and Nick Catone eked out a split decision over Jesse Forbes.
